Photographer uses SecurDisc to recover irreplaceable memories from a damaged disc
Protect the readability of files from disc decay
Phil Stamp is a keen amateur photographer who takes thousands of digital photos of family, friends, and other subjects. Because he doesn't want to use up all the space on his computer by storing photos on his hard drive, Phil burns his images to DVDs.
In order to preserve the quality and readability of his precious photos he uses a SecurDisc-enabled drive to record his files to DVDs. The Data Integrity feature built into SecurDisc protects his images against disc decay, which can affect the readability of data on discs over time.
The Data Integrity checker informs Phil if his images are in danger, allowing him to save them to another disc and preserve his priceless memories forever.
Recover valuable data from a damaged disc
While Phil has done everything he can to protect the images he saves to DVDs from disc decay, sometimes discs get damaged in other ways.
One day Phil discovered that one of his DVDs had been so badly scratched, he couldn't access the files on it. However, because he had burned it with a SecurDisc-enabled drive, he was able to recover all of his irreplaceable images thanks to the SecurDisc Data Reliability feature.
This feature uses the space left over on the DVD after Phil had saved his photos, to store redundant and checksum data. The chances of retrieving data from a damaged disc are much higher with SecurDisc. And so it turned out for Phil -- much to his relief!
Business partners secure their confidential data with SecurDisc Testimonials
Exchange confidential information safely
Andrea Smith and John Millar have a unique idea for a new business partnership. And, of course, they want to keep their idea under wraps until they're ready to launch. Worried about the security of their documents, they use SecurDisc-protected CDs to exchange files and documents, such as business plan drafts and budget information.
They burn data to CDs using NeroExpress and a SecurDisc drive, and activate the Password Protection feature. Each recipient needs just the password and the InCD Reader to access the disc. If the recipient doesn't have the InCD Reader, when the CD is launched, a message appears that tells the user where to download InCD Reader.
Andrea and John use SecurDisc to backup all their documents to DVDs, and password-protect them all in case they are lost or stolen. This helps Andrea and John safeguard all of their valuable information.
Digitally sign discs to prove their authenticity
As well as password-protecting their data, Andrea and John further protect their confidential files by digitally signing every disc they record with SecurDisc. This allows recipients to verify that the information they receive is authentic, and hasn't been tampered with in any way.
SecurDisc does this by generating a private and public key for each disc. Either Andrea or John holds the private key, and give the recipient of the disc the public key. The recipient uses the InCD Reader, which can be downloaded for free to check the authenticity of the disc with the public key.
This way, SecurDisc lets Andrea and John securely pass sensitive information between themselves and others with confidence.
Protect PDF files from unwanted copying and sharing
When Andrea and John have finished their business plan, they save it as a PDF file. They want to show the plan to a few people, but want to make sure it isn't copied and distributed to anyone else.
Using SecurDisc's Copy Protection feature, they ensure that the document can only be read from the original SecurDisc DVD they save it to. This means that the file cannot be copied or edited in any way - giving them peace of mind that the information in their business plan won't be copied and shared with others.
