Your data is your business. Securing it is ours.
SecurDisc is a breakthrough in optical media security at a time when computer users are storing increasing amounts of confidential and important data on CDs and DVDs.
Developed by Nero and Hitachi-LG-Data-Storage (HLDS), SecurDisc provides a full range of powerful security features that protect data stored on optical media against unauthorized access and copying, and helps you recover it in the event of disc failure. SecurDisc also helps ensure the integrity and reliability of data stored on CDs and DVDs over long periods of time.
Learn more about the technology driving SecurDisc's five security features:
- Data Reliability to save your data if a disc is damaged
- Password Protection to stop unwanted access to your data
- Data Integrity Check to preserve your data over time
- Digital Signature to verify the authenticity of your files
- Copy Protection to stop unwanted copying of PDF files
Data Reliability helps rescue data from a damaged disc
While media capacity has become less expensive, reliability is still very important for today's optical storage media as discs can be scratched or otherwise damaged. SecurDisc significantly increases your chances of retrieving data from a damaged disc.
When you record data to optical media, the discs rarely fill up to their capacity. In fact, often a considerable amount of space remains unused.
SecurDisc redundantly stores information in the remaining space to safeguard your files in case the disc gets damaged. This feature is vital to the security of your files, so Data Reliability is always enabled and cannot be disabled.
Password Protection keeps away prying eyes
SecurDisc ensures the protection of confidential data by encrypting through AES-128. This prohibits access to the protected data without the password set by the original author.
When a user attempts to access password-protected data, a password prompt appears. The password is then passed to the drive through a secure channel. The drive checks the password and grants access to the protected data if it is the correct one.
SecurDisc is a hardware-software based solution, and is therefore harder to hack and more secure than software-only solutions. Not only is the password protection feature secured by the AES-128 encryption, but secret values are also implemented in a drive's firmware to provide extra security.
The password should be at least 16 characters long. Alternatively, complete sentences can be used.
Data Integrity Check protects your data from disc decay
SecurDisc provides another layer of protection through its Data Integrity Check, which warns you if the data on a disc is at risk of disc decay, giving you time to back it up to another disc.
This is accomplished by using the checksum feature. As another core security feature, Data Integrity Check is always enabled and cannot be disabled.
Digital Signature verifies the authenticity of your files
When you transfer important data from one person to another, the recipient must be able to tell that the data is authentic and has not been manipulated.
To do so, SecurDisc lets you digitally sign an entire SecurDisc disc using a trusted signing key. You can then distribute a signature verification key to anyone who receives the disc, allowing them to verify the authenticity of the data.
A private key is used for the digital signature, and the recipient verifies it using the corresponding public key. If you don't have a private-public key pair you can create one within Nero Express.
The recipient needs either InCD or InCD Reader to verify the signature using the public key, which can be downloaded

Copy Protection prohibits PDF files replication
SecurDisc can also protect sensitive data against unauthorized duplication - allowing data to be read, but not copied or edited.
SecurDisc encrypts files and stores the keys on a copy-protected part of the media. This feature is currently only available for PDFs recorded to DVDs.
A viewer application combined with a SecurDisc drive is required to view protected files.
